Dust off your football boots and ball for the official opening of Randwick City Council’s new, all-weather Synthetic Sports Field at Heffron Park in Maroubra.

The state-of-the-art field has been designed for a variety of sports including football, rugby union and rugby league, and can accommodate eight mini or one large FIFA-accredited field.

The multi-million dollar upgrade forms part of the Heffron Park Management Plan developed in 2004 which is delivering a series of major improvements for residents and the sporting community.

Randwick Mayor, Noel D’Souza will unveil the sports field on Sunday 3 April from 11am – 1pm and is encouraging everyone to come along and test out the turf for themselves.

“Free activities, music and giveaways will keep families and friends entertained while the all ages soccer clinic will help up-and-coming soccer stars ‘bend it like Beckham’ for the big games”, said Mayor D’Souza.

Since 2008 Council has delivered a new kids playground, the well-known Pedal Park, several club houses and amenities buildings, new flood lights and cycle way extensions and the award-winning Des Renford Leisure Centre.

Mayor Noel D’Souza says he is pleased to be investing in the future of the local area and providing high quality facilities for the community.

“I am immensely proud to see Heffron Park transform itself as one Sydney's leading sports facilities, putting Maroubra firmly on the sporting map”.

Set across a mammoth 44 hectares, Heffron Park is already home to range of sports including soccer, touch football, Oz tag, cricket, netball, cycling, tennis and gymnastics.
