Newly elected Randwick Mayor Councillor Ted Seng with Deputy Mayor Councillor Anthony Andrews.

Randwick City Council has tonight (30 September 2014) held its annual Mayoral election of sitting Councillors, with Councillor Ted Seng being voted as Mayor of Randwick taking over from outgoing Mayor Scott Nash.

Independent Councillor Anthony Andrews was re-elected in the role of Deputy Mayor for the second consecutive year.

"I am very proud and honoured to elected as Mayor of Randwick by my Councillor colleagues," Mayor Seng said. "I am very passionate about this Council and the local community, and I am looking forward to a big, challenging and rewarding year ahead," Mayor Seng said.

Councillor Ted Seng (now Mayor) is a member of The Liberal Party, has been a Randwick City Councillor since 1995 and was previously elected Mayor in 2005-06.

"I am very focused on the task at hand and will be working hard to ensure this Council maintains and strengthens its reputation as a leading local government organisation in NSW.

"I would like thank and congratulate Councillor Nash on many wonderful achievements over the previous year. I am honoured to follow him in this role and carry on this great work.

"I will continue to focus on efficiency and maintain our balanced and debt free budget, whilst still delivering the fantastic services our community values," he said.

Born in 1960 in Malaysia, Mayor Seng arrived in Australia over 30 years ago and completed extensive tertiary studies, graduating with a Bachelor of Economics from Australian National University and a Master of Business Administration from Macquarie University.

As a Certified Practising Accountant, Mayor Seng has over 25 years' experience in financial accounting for both large companies and not-for-profit organisations, and is an advocate for residents' rights and cultural diversity. He is currently the General Manager of a community organisation which provides home and community care for those most in need in our community.

The new Mayoral and Deputy Mayoral roles commence immediately.
