Clovelly and Carrington Roads are looking spick and span this evening, after around 30 staff from across Randwick City Council departments hit the streets as early as 5:00am to deliver an intensive one-day program of cleaning, maintenance and upgrades.

Randwick Mayor Philipa Veitch said that the crew’s activities complement the Council’s regular cleaning and maintenance program which is carried out by workers across Randwick City every day.

“I’m really proud of the work Council staff do every day to keep our City looking great.”

“The Blitz crew’s coordinated work – concentrated on one target area at a time – really adds value to these daily efforts, progressing priority projects and delivering quick results.

In the space of one day, the ‘Blitz crew’:

  • Replaced 100 square metres of footpath
  • Cleaned 1000 square metres of pavers and footpaths
  • Changed 17 street signs
  • Pruned 11 trees
  • Planted one new tree
  • Maintained 80 square metres of turf
  • Laid metres of mulch
  • Repaired and painted a seat

Clovelly and Carrington roads were the third site to receive a dose of the Blitz crew’s special treatment in as many months, after previous efforts in Randwick and Malabar town centre’s delivered great results.

In the lead up to the scheduled works, Council staff door-knocked local business operators to inform them of the works and to identify priority improvements in the public domain.

“Our experience so far is that the focused activity of the new ‘Blitz crew’ delivers an instant spruce-up to an area and a boost to local businesses”, said Mayor Veitch.

“We chose the intersections of Clovelly and Carrington roads as the third blitz to support recent Council works in the area, including the creation of the Clovelly Road Pocket Park and footpath works near Crust Pizza.

As it continues to roll out ‘Blitz crew’ operations across the local government area, Council has also announced a two-day blitz of Maroubra Junction – from Boyce Road to Wise Road – from Wednesday 31 July to Thursday 1 August.
