This Sunday is the launch of NAIDOC Week – an annual national celebration of the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The Traditional Owners of the lands within the Randwick City area are the Bidjigal and Gadigal people, who have occupied and cared for this Country for thousands of years.

Their cultures and deep spiritual connection to the land, waters, and sky remains unbroken, and enrich our community.

I hope you’re able to join in the wide variety of events throughout the week.

Check out live music and entertainment at the Yarra Bay Sailing Club, participate in cultural workshops (and meet your favourite Rabbitoh players!) at the South Cares NAIDOC festival, participate in traditional weaving or shell art workshops at Lionel Bowen Library, or join your family and friends for a day out at NAIDOC in the Park.

There’s exciting news for market enthusiasts and stallholders this week, as we finally kick off our monthly Maroubra Markets, after a run of terrible weather forced the cancellation of the first two events.

Come on down to Broadarrow Reserve in Maroubra this Sunday between 8am – 2pm to grab a bite to eat and browse a wide variety of quality goods from local suppliers, from fresh produce to artisan food products, fashion, homewares, crafts, plants, flowers, and art.

School holidays are fast approaching, and we’re hosting an exciting program of events for school-age children and young people at libraries across Randwick City.

There’s truly something for every age and interest – from making glow in the dark slime, to designing their own book bag or learning the basics of print making or stop-motion animation.

These workshops are always very popular, so I encourage you to check out the full program and make sure you book your spots soon.

Have a wonderful week.
