Three children wearing black and yellow school uniforms play on new green and silver monkey bars at the Alison Park Playground in Randwick. One girl watches from the ground, while another, with long, curly brown hair hangs from a bar with both hands looking toward the next bar. The third child is climbing down the other side.

Children, families and carers will gather this Thursday afternoon to celebrate the official opening of the new-and-improved Alison Park Playground in Randwick.

Randwick City Council Mayor Philipa Veitch will formally open the playground following a Welcome to Country, and the celebration will kick on with live music by Anthony Cianci and Jake Edgley. There will be free ice-cream and coffee for community members, and bubbles for the kids.

“I’m thrilled to invite children of all ages to join us in celebrating the official opening of the newly upgraded Alison Park Playground”, said Randwick Mayor Philipa Veitch.

“The new playground is bright and engaging, with fun features like an in-ground trampoline, run wheel and nest swing, so we’re throwing the opening party it deserves. We hope you can come along to join the celebration!"

Alison Park Playground is the latest of eight playgrounds to be upgraded by Council in the last five years. Located at the south-west corner of Alison Park, the 491-square metre facility has brought joy to the community since 1986, when play equipment was first installed.

During the upgrade, Council fully removed the old playground and installed new fencing, non-toxic rubber softfall and all new play equipment. Specifically designed to be accessible to children of all ages and abilities, the new playground includes areas for percussion play to enhance children’s development.

Council also installed a new water bubbler, a sheltered picnic setting and a larger shade cloth to provide coverage of 42 per cent of the space.

Mayor Veitch is scheduled to speak at approximately 3.30pm. There are limited supplies of ice-cream and coffee, so community members are encouraged to arrive on time to avoid disappointment.
