Randwick City’s first dedicated bike park catering for mountain bikes, BMX and stunt bikes as well as scooters will be built in Cromwell Park North in Malabar.

Randwick Councillors considered three short-listed sites at their 30 April 2024 Council Meeting including a Matraville site on Botany Rd and a Chifley site in the Anzac Parade median strip.

Councillors settled on the Malabar site due to the park’s large size, convenient location and access to parking.

The new facility is proposed to include a network of mountain bike trails, an asphalt pump track, a large skills area featuring stone and timber obstacles and a dirt jump zone.

Randwick Mayor Philipa Veitch said the site was a good choice.

“Bike riding is a popular activity for many young people. Bikes parks have been built in the Northern Beaches and Sutherland Shire and there has been strong demand from Randwick City residents for a local facility.

“Our Open Space and Recreation Strategy identified the need for a bike track and I’m very pleased Council has now selected a site and can proceed with design development.

“This new facility will cater for a wide range of bike enthusiasts from mountain bikers to stunt bike and BMX riders and even scooter riders,” Mayor Veitch said.

Council has allocated $1.35M in funding for the project and will now develop refined concept plans and consult with the local community.

Construction is expected to commence in the 2024-25 financial year.
