A new park at the intersection of Clovelly and Carrington roads is now open, providing the community in Randwick with a unique outdoor space to rest and gather.

The pocket park features timber seats with sculptural structures on which vines will grow and cover to provide shade, new plants, and a multi-purpose deck. Four timed parking spaces on Clovelly Road, adjacent to the park, have also been added to ensure easy access to local businesses.

The pocket park replaces a median island and slip lane. Randwick Mayor Philipa Veitch said the new park offered respite for pedestrians on long walks and a place for people to come together. She encouraged community members to make the most of the new space.

“It’s a small but functional space that provides people with a place to rest and meet,” Mayor Veitch said. “A lot of people walk through this intersection every day. Whether they are heading to the beach, or to the shops and restaurants on Frenchmans Road, or to Centennial Park, pedestrians now have another spot where they can rest before continuing their walk.

“It’s also a fantastic place to catch up with friends over lunch or coffee from a nearby cafe."

The pocket park was identified as one of seven key priority projects in the Clovelly Road Precinct Streetscape Masterplan. The plan was adopted by Randwick City Council in 2020 after an extensive consultation with key stakeholders and the local community, as well as detailed site analysis.

The pocket park was constructed in partnership with the NSW government’s Public Spaces Legacy Program.
