Up to 50 Randwick City Council staff will descend on Maroubra Junction Town Centre next week to deliver an intensive two-day program of cleaning, maintenance and upgrades.

The effort – scheduled for Wednesday 31 July and Thursday 1 August 2024 – is the fourth in a series of ‘Blitz Crew’ operations by staff from across Council’s departments, and the first to take place over two days.

Randwick and Malabar town centres and the corner of Clovelly and Carrington roads in Clovelly have all received a dose of the special treatment by the Blitz Crew this year.

Randwick Mayor Philipa Veitch said that the crew’s activities complement the regular cleaning and maintenance works performed by Council workers across Randwick City every day.

“By coordinating and concentrating our efforts on one target area at a time, Council is adding value to its daily, city-wide maintenance operations.

“Daily maintenance will always be our core business, but the coordinated and methodical nature of the Blitz crew delivers quick results and progress on priority projects.

"Our staff engage with local businesses ahead of the day to help identify priorities. Our experience so far is that the crew’s public domain improvements provide an instant boost to the community and to businesses in the area.”

Over two days, workers will complete a range of works, restoring broken pavers, replacing old or damaged street signs, sweeping and water-blasting pavements, landscaping, and other works.

Kerbside parking in the area will be reduced for the duration of the work, and measures taken to mitigate risks of noise, dust or erosion from the crew’s activities.

“We apologise for any inconvenience experienced while our staff conduct these improvements. We really appreciate the community’s patience and understanding,” Mayor Veitch said.

If residents or business operators have any questions related to the works, they should contact Council on 1300 722 542 or on council@randwick.nsw.gov.au.
