- Project summary: Waratah Avenue is set to become a new urban plaza in the heart of Randwick Junction. The plaza will become a civic space with the closure of Waratah Avenue to vehicles between Belmore Road and Arthur Lane

Key Features
Following consultation with the local users of the area, we have designed a plaza with:
- closure to Waratah Avenue between Belmore Road and Arthur Lane
- high quality landscaped space for community use
- improved access for people to walk and cycle to Belmore Road, including an accessible walkway through the heart of the plaza
- opportunity for permanent public art and temporary art exhibitions. Art design strategy to be developed
- new car parking spaces along Belmore Road to offset lost car spaces in Waratah Avenue
- high quality paving and materials
- retention of the existing mature fig trees, complemented with new street trees and new garden beds
- terraces for outdoor casual dining, as well markets, exhibitions and street performances
- under grounding of the existing powerline
Construction
The construction will commence 15 May 2023. Construction is expected to be complete by early 2024, weather and COVID-19 restrictions permitting.
