Creative Space RLI Residency
Historic Randwick Literary Institute (RLI) is the latest addition to Council's Creative Space program.
RLI Residency is a new initiative, providing a week long residency for performance-based artists in the beginning stages of a new work.
RLI Residency aims to support the creation of new work from artists working across theatre, performance, movement, dance, circus and drag.

Residency Timelines
- RLI Residency #1: Monday 8 July to Sunday 14 July
- RLI Residency #1 Closed Showing: 3pm, Sunday 14 July
- RLI Residency #2: Monday 15 July to Sunday 21 July
- RLI Residency #2 Closed Showing: 11am, Sunday 21 July
Access to the space is between 7.30am and 9.30pm daily. Randwick Literary Institute is used by many different community groups and it is important that residency artists are mindful of other users during their residency.
Successful Artists Receive
- 1 x week of fully subsidised development space
- Stipend of $2500 for solo artists (one lead artist) and $5000 for groups (collective of artists)
Stipends can be used for artist fees, materials, mentorship and creative collaboration. Stipends are paid in two parts, 50% prior to residency and remaining 50% upon completion. - Closed showing supported by Council
- Professional photographic documentation of closed showing
Final residency allocation is at the discretion of the Evaluation Committee.
About Randwick Literary Institute
Randwick Literary Institute (RLI) is located at 60 Clovelly Road, Randwick.
RLI is a multi-level building featuring diverse spaces used by a broad cross section of the community. RLI Residency will provide artists with access to one space on the ground floor featuring natural light and tarkett. There is WiFi available onsite.
The venue is not wheelchair accessible, there are steps to enter the building and there are no accessible bathrooms.
- Open to artists with a performance-based practice which can include theatre, performance, movement, dance, circus and drag
- Preference given to artists who live, work or study in the local area and who have not benefitted from Council support in the last 24 months
- Applicants must be Australian residents or permanent residents aged over 18
- Applicants must hold Public Liability Insurance up to $20 million in any one incident and must provide a currency certificate
- RLI Residency is for solo or groups of artists in the beginning stages of developing a new work. RLI Residency does not support workshops or classes.
- How well the project meets the EOI aims (50%)
- The individual or collective’s skills and experience to deliver the project (25%)
- How practical and achievable to the residency is within the proposed budget (clear documentation of intended expenditure and quotes for items over $500) (25%)
